Abstract

Mathematics is a subject about abstract models and the relationships between them, a science, a way of thinking, an art, a language, and a tool of carefully defined terms and symbols. Mathematics is defined as the abstract form of life in its simplest form. However, our lives are intertwined with mathematics. It is possible to encounter mathematics in our bodies, in our nature, in the technological tools we use, in the meals we cook, in sports... In short, it is possible to encounter mathematics in every aspect of our daily lives. Our project with "Realistic Mathematics Education" was created to show our students that mathematics is related to situations in life and is actually close to students, and to produce different solutions by comparing students with real-life problems. Our students will learn to do mathematics in a holistic way by using mathematical modeling based on real-life situations given in collaboration and will be able to explore life with mathematics. Within the scope of these objectives, necessary plans have been made for each month. 8 schools from Turkey, 3 schools from Serbia, 3 schools from Jordan and 1 school from Croatia participated in the project with ID number 135110. Teachers, students, the city and country they live in were introduced in February. In the same month, posters and logos were made for the project and school boards were prepared. In March, PI story was written as a joint product and an acrostic work was made for the project name. Also in the same month, a 2023 calendar regarding special numbers in mathematics was created. The Khoot game related to special numbers has been played and games have been designed with mixed countries. In April, Geometry cities were built under the title of Geometry Around Us. Biomimicry activities were included. Biomimicry studies were carried out in May. An informative brochure about biomimicry was prepared and a helicopter design was made. About Biomimicry Prof. Dr. An online meeting was held with LEVENT MERCİN and information was obtained. Orienteering activities were held to combine mathematics and nature. The final magazine was prepared in June. A virtual exhibition has been prepared. A summary video of the project was prepared. Web.2.0 tools were used in all of these studies and all photos of the events were uploaded to the required pages in Twinspace on time. The project was disseminated on social media. At the end of each month and at the end of the project, evaluation activities were applied to both teachers and students. New learning was achieved by sharing the activities of the schools participating in the project. Likewise, feedback was received from the students that they enjoyed the project very much. Students have improved their attitudes towards mathematics lessons by using digital environments. In addition, students stated that they enjoyed working with foreign partners in collaborative studies and that the project also contributed to their language skills.
